Queen of the Town

She often spoke of encounters with demons and evil spirits.

She was the Queen of the town. Everyone believed in her and her God-given powers. She was their pillar. The one everyone turned to for help and prayers. They felt that God listened to her more than them. She had a special gift, and they knew it. She was kind, she was loving, and she saw past evil.

It was a known fact that she had personal encounters with those who had passed, and she often predicted what the future held. She spoke of encounters with demons and evil spirits; she told stories of how she fought battles with the dark side and always defeated the enemy.

Please don’t misunderstand; she was not gloating. She just loved to share her tales. She gave all of herself but did not expect payment. She expressed that her words were not hers, that her vision and strength belonged to one of a higher power. She fought deadly battles but reigned victoriously. She was beyond strong, and those who encountered her believed she could not be dismantled.

Then on one faithful day, the Queen of the town began to grow weary as she fought an unforeseen and deadly battle; her powers were weak and diminishing. On this dreadful day, her reign came to an end.

She fought her last battle, and she was defeated; she began to feel unbearable pain, and as she lay weak, her king came to save her and took her away. He would leave behind her body but took with him her mind and soul, freeing her from all her pain.

The town’s people could not understand or accept that she had been defeated. Why wasn’t she helped in this battle? Why didn’t she win? Doesn’t a Queen always reign supreme? Who would lead them? Some things cannot be explained but rest assured that the Queen of the Town does not lay in a grave.

She still sits on her throne and is revered by many. But at this same date, her body remains as part of this earth, yet her mind and her soul now lay down to rest in a heavenly and happy place where she no longer feels torment.

Elizabeth Donato (2016). Queen of the Town. Creative
non-fiction story.

This my first story on Medium; I wrote it in college. My inspiration was my Mama (Grandma), Luz Maria Gonzalez. She was/is a Queen to me, and that is how I want to remember her.

She was my rock, best friend, the strongest and noblest woman I have known in my lifetime. She was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and Dementia in 2004.

Her body remains on earth, but her mind, love, and soul were taken from us in the blink of an eye. Honor and enjoy your loved ones every single day.
